Motor Claim
General Insurance Association [GIA] has implemented new Motor Claims Framework [MCF] with effect from 01.06.2008 with a view to allow motorists to make motor claims in a simple, hassle-free and speedy manner.
For further details reference may be made to A Guide to Motor Claims Framework by GIA and also MCF online at http://www.gia.org.sg
KEY POINTS OF THE MOTOR CLAIMS FRAMEWORK [MCF]
In case of accident you should …
As per the MCF:
1. Exchange particulars of involved parties including Name, NRIC/FIN. Telephone Number, Address and Insurer. Take note of the vehicle numbers and do take digital photographs (e.g. MMS) of your accident vehicle which can be included during e-filing of accident reports later.
2. Call your insurer’s hotline for a tow truck or for further advice on the accident.
3. Report and bring your accident vehicle (whether damaged or not) to the approved reporting centre/authorised workshop within 24 hours or by the next working day.
4. Avoid all unauthorised tow-truck operators or repair workshops.
REMEMBER: All accidents must be reported to your insurer within 24 hours or by the next working day with your accident vehicle, no matter how trivial or even if there is no visible damage, and irrespective of whether you are claiming from any insurers or third parties.
For policyholders of “India International”
1. The driver of the vehicle should complete the SAS (Singapore Accident Statement) to be submitted at the time of e-filing of accident reports. How to fill in the Singapore Accident Statement
Lodge a Police Report if the accident involves;
injury / death
foreign vehicle(s)
government vehicles or government property
loss / damage to insured vehicle due to theft or fire
the accident took place on Malaysian roads
Copy of the Police report is to be submitted at the time of e-filing of accident reports.
2. For our public transport fleet [taxi and bus] insured, there is no change in the existing procedure and they can continue to e-file accident reports from their in-house reporting centres.
3. Our other insureds can e-file their accident reports through any of the IDAC Centres or any one of our Authorised Reporting Centres [ARCs]. You can also avail the “One-Stop Centre Services” provided by the IDAC centre by contacting their following hotline numbers:

| STA Inspection |

If required, IDAC Centre would arrange towing of the disabled vehicle. The cost of towage and survey will be paid by us if you decide to claim Own Damage [OD] under the policy.
4. Own Damage Claims: Under the motor policies issued by us, you are free to choose any workshop [including but NOT limited to our approved workshops] for having your vehicle repaired. Please submit estimate from the workshop if the vehicle is insured on Comprehensive terms. We will arrange for survey and process the claim.
5. Windscreen Damage: There is no need to e-file accident reports if damage is limited to windscreen and no other vehicle is involved. Simply download our Damage to Windscreen Claim Form and submit the same duly completed to us with an estimate for replacement of windscreen from a workshop of your choice.
6. Fire & Theft Claims: If the vehicle is insured on Comprehensive or Third Party Fire & Theft terms, please report to the Police and submit a copy of the Police report with other supporting documents to our office.
The benefits of reporting…
As per the MCF:
By reporting the accident within the stipulated time, you not only enjoy hassle-free and quality-certified repair services as provided under the MCF, you will also avoid potentially higher costs from exaggerated claims.
For policyholders of “India International”
Under the motor policies issued by us, you are free to choose any workshop [including but NOT limited to our approved workshops] for having your vehicle repaired to your satisfaction. In case you wish to pursue claim against third party [instead of claiming own damage under your policy] kindly check the procedure with the workshop of your choice. As part of their “One-Stop Centre Services” the IDAC Centres would also be able to provide suitable guidance and assistance to the policyholder for pursuing claim against the third party.
Should you fail to report the accident…
As per the MCF:
Should you fail to report to your insurer with your accident vehicle, you may find yourself in a position of having your claims prejudiced or declined later by insurers. Failure to comply with the new policy condition will be seen as being “in breach” of the policy terms and conditions i.e. there will be no liability on the part of the insurer.
Any non-compliance of this Policy Condition will result in a loss of your No Claims Discount upon renewal of your policy.
For policyholders of “India International”
The revised Notification Clause [and No Claim Discount Protection Clause if opted for by the policyholder] will be incorporated in the policy upon renewal.
Submission of MMS...
GIA Record Management Centre [GIARMC] has enhanced the e-filing system to accept MMS photographs from motorists involved in an accident. Please refer to USER Guide for sending of MMS photographs to GIARMC. The phone number for receiving MMS pictures is 97112758.
Important Notice...
As per the Terms and Conditions of the Policy you are required not to commit
or admit liability to the third party or any other persons verbally or in writing.
All correspondence and documents received from Third party/Police/Solicitors etc
should immediately be forwarded to us.
